Prosecco, first UNESCO collection and sales record in France

A 2019 to remember for Venetian bubbles, which conquer UNESCO recognition and the primacy of the most consumed Italian wine abroad.

A 2019 to remember for Prosecco. The first harvest has begun on the hills recognized by Unesco, and this crowns years of commitment by the Veneto producers and at the same time Prosecco scores a 50% increase in sales in France, which sets the historic export record of Prosecco and on world markets, reaching a total value of no less than 2019 million euros in the first half of 458. With a 17% increase in Prosecco exports conquered in 2019 the primacy of the most consumed Italian wine abroad thanks to the high quality and production capacity with the precious bubbles which – underlines a note from Coldiretti – are the protagonists of a real boom in the USA. The United States, with an increase in value of 41%, becomes the main customer ahead of Great Britain and France while Germany is in fourth place where the increase is more contained (+7%). But an encouraging increase of 66% in the value of sales was also recorded in China where, however, demand is still very limited due to the traditional preference given in the Asian giant to red wines.

The approval from beyond the Alps is significant of the success achieved also against the competition from champagne. However, what weighs on the worldwide success of Prosecco - explains Coldiretti - is the proliferation in the various continents of fakes of all kinds with imitations widespread in all countries, from Meer-secco to Kressecco, from Semisecco to Consecco, but it was unmasked the sale also of Whitesecco and Crisecco. As far as this year's harvest is concerned, extremely positive results are expected. The harvest of Glera grapes will be 10-15% lower than last year, which heralds a production of great excellence. In fact, the first harvest promises to be of absolute quality thanks to the right balance between sugar content and acidity and the optimal health status of the grapes. After a rather cool winter, which recorded temperatures in line with the period, the area underwent a cooler and rainier than average spring which caused a delay in budding and followed by a suitably hot summer, with a temperature trend typical of the season .
