Proraso, the Chinese want our shaving cream

The Hong Kong fund Nuo Capital wants to enter the capital of the Martelli family company which owns the historic Proraso cosmetic and beard shaving brand.

This was revealed by Il Sole 24 Ore, according to which the Chinese family office is already negotiating - together with the Italian Tommaso Paoli, former manager of Intesa Sanpaolo - the purchase of a minority shareholding in Proraso alongside the Martelli family, which currently holds 90% of the shares.

Proraso, which was founded in 1908 in Florence and which today has its registered office in Fiesole, is the typical expression of Made in Italy that foreign investors like so much and is valued at 150 million euros, but in the race to conquer it at least in part , in addition to Nuo Capital, there are two other private equity funds and two strategy groups.

Proraso srl, which also owns other well-known brands such as Marvis, Kaloderma, Oxy and Schultz, closed its 2017 financial statements – again Il Sole 24 Ore reports it – with a turnover of 60 million, an ebitda of 13,1 million and debts banks for 6 million. The entry of a minority shareholder with a long-term investment can give it new impetus.
