Passes and fails: Franceschini and Minniti, Grasso and D'Alema the most illustrious victims

If the outgoing majority at national level reaches one of its lowest levels in recent history, however there are big names promoted in the single-member elections: Gentiloni triumphs, Renzi enters the Senate, Boschi redeems himself and almost en plein also in Milan with Tabacci and Quartapelle in the Chamber – Bonino enters the Senate – Flop of some ministers and Leu exponents.

Passes and fails: Franceschini and Minniti, Grasso and D'Alema the most illustrious victims

Excellent promotions and rejection among the big names of the outgoing majority who presented themselves in single-member constituencies. Let's start with the ministers and the great exponents of the outgoing majority, who all risked being rejected given the particularly disappointing result at national level of the Democratic Party: the most sensational flops, even if for them there could be repechage in the proportional representation, are those of the minister of the Interior Marco Minnitiof that of cultural heritage Dario Franceschini and that of the Defence Roberta Pinotti.

The first, in the constituency of Pesaro (historic red stronghold) even finished third (with 28%, defeated by the 5-star candidate Andrea Cecconi, already expelled for having faked the repayments to the microcredit fund), as well as Pinotti in Genoa, on the step lowest of the podium with 26,7% of preferences. Franceschini is also out in the constituency of Ferrara: she is approaching 30%, but that is not enough: the candidate from the centre-right, in the Lega share, wins hands down with almost 40% of the votes. Among the outgoing ministers De Vincenti also out in Sassuolo and Valeria Faithful in Pisa. Considering other prominent names of the Democratic Party, they are also punished at the polls Debora Serracchiani in the constituency of the Chamber of Trieste (where, in the Senate, the former president of the Friuli Region Riccardo Illy was also defeated, interviewed by FIRSTonline on the eve of the vote) e Matthew Orfini a Roma.

However, there is no shortage positive notes. They directly detach the ticket for Montecitorio, without therefore having to wait for the recovery in the proportional system, the Minister of the Economy Pier Carlo Padoan, which in Siena is 36,18 per cent; the owner of the infrastructures Graziano Delrio, in the running (even if still in doubt, as we write) in Reggio Emilia, which stands at 35,9 percent with 180 sections out of 205 scrutinized; the Minister for Sport Luca Lotti, to 40,54 per cent in the Empoli constituency; the Minister of Health Beatrice Lorenzin, which gets 36,9% in Modena.

Inside also the former minister Mary Helen Woods: catapulted to the constituency of Bolzano, she has far surpassed the challenger Micaela Biancofiore but the votes almost all come from the Suditorlese ally that dominates the Bassa Atesina, the Svp. Goes to victory, as far as the Senate is concerned, Pier Ferdinando Casini, candidate of the centre-left coalition in Bologna. The outgoing premier is triumphant Paolo Gentiloni in Rome, also inside the former candidate for mayor of Rome Roberto Giachetti, from the parachute college of Sesto Fiorentino. Renzi easily enters the Senate in and around Florence. Winning hat-trick also in Milan, where the Democratic Party reaches 28% in the central constituencies: promoted to the Chamber Bruno Tabacci, Lia Quartapelle and Mattia Mor.

Outside the Democratic Party but always in the centre-left or left, inside Emma Bonino: waiting to understand if his pro-European list will break through the "ceiling" of 3% in proportional representation at national level, he can celebrate his election in the single-member constituency of Rome Gianicolense in the Senate. On the other hand, the big names of Liberi and Uguali are bad: in the Nardò constituency in the Senate, the debacle of Massimo D'Alema which does not touch 4%. In the college of Palermo San Lorenzo Pietro Grasso in the Senate it does not reach 6%. Bad too Laura Boldrini in Milan, a very disappointing outcome for the former governor Vasco Errani, expression of the former dem of Liberi and Uguali: in Ravenna he is only fourth.
