Prometeia: consumption, -9% in the last 5 years

Consumption in Italy has experienced a drop of 9% in the last 5 years, reaching in 2013 the lowest level reached since 1997 to date. This is confirmed by the latest Prometeia Club Consumption Report, which shows how, compared to 2012, consumption fell by 2,3%.

In the last 5 years, the dynamics of household expenditure for individual goods and services have changed, by virtue of the increase of around 650 euros for the obligatory expenses for the home (rent, utilities) and for the care of the future (health, financial, social protection). On the other hand, the expenses for mobility (vehicles, their management and maintenance and services) decreased more, which in the 5 years (2008-2013) decreased by around 800 Euros per family.

Those for domestic food are also decreasing, which have decreased by about 200 euros per family. Furthermore, according to Prometeia's research, due to the growing inequality of income and wealth, expenses such as those for house cleaning services have been rewarded, while those for furniture and appliances have been in decline. Expenditure related to culture and leisure, on the other hand, was less penalized by the crisis.
