Profumo launches the Leonardo Foundation: Violante president

The Leonardo-Civiltà delle Macchine Foundation is born, a project aimed at taking up the challenge deriving from the technological development in progress in order to arrive at a "new industrial humanism".

The initiative was presented this morning, 4 February, at the Maxxi museum in Rome in the presence of the Premier, Giuseppe Conte, and Leonardo's managing director, Alessandro Profumo. On May 4th, on the occasion of the anniversary of Leonardo Da Vinci's death, the new new issue of the magazine "Civiltà delle Macchine" will be presented.

The president of the new foundation will be Luciano Violante. “Italy is not Disneyland – said Violante – it is instead a country that contributes significantly to civilization and development. Technology is the real tool of globalization, but it must serve man, not vice versa. We aim to develop the synergy between school and business, between industry and culture".

Aiming for "a new industrial humanism", the launch of the Leonardo Foundation - Civilization of Machines "marks an important moment both in the history of the group and in the path of dialogue and comparison between industry and culture, between science and art", and it is also " a return to our roots”, said Leonardo's CEO, Alessandro Profumo, introducing the initiative at the presentation ceremony. “The Foundation represents the ideal bridge between the past and the future, to put technology at the service of the common good for a new industrial humanism,” he added.

The magazine “Civiltà delle Macchine” was born in 1953 “with a multidisciplinary character that involved the most prestigious minds of the time, a periodical that hosted free comparison – recalled the manager -. 66 years have passed since that unique experience, the country has changed profoundly but yesterday as today the dialogue between civilization and technology is more fundamental than ever".

“Nerve infrastructures cannot do without technology and technologies have a fundamental place in the diffusion of culture. In the digital age Machine civilization is the civilization of the present, the great challenge we set ourselves – concluded Profumo – is to face this complexity to build a sustainable future together”.
