Industrial production down by 2,2% in January

There is no positive news about industrial production in Italy. THE'Istat today released the data for the month of January recording a decline in industrial production by 0,7% compared to December 2014. TheIstat he also reported that on average for the November-January quarter, the index increased by 0,1% compared to the immediately preceding quarter. Corrected for calendar effects, in trend terms in January the index decreased by 2,2% (there were 20 working days against 21 in January 2014).

In the analysis by sector carried out by the national statistical institute in the month of January, they are slight increases in the energy sector (+0,5%) and consumer goods (+0,1%); instead capital goods (-1,8%) and intermediate goods (-0,2%) decreased. In trend terms, the indices adjusted for calendar effects recorded, in January 2015, decreases in all sectors; intermediate goods decreased (-2,8%), energy (-2,7%), consumer goods (-2,0%) and, to a lesser extent, capital goods (-0,9% ).

Carrying out a further analysis for individual sectors of economic activity, theIstat shows an annual growth for i transport equipment manufacturing sectors (+16,1%) and the manufacture of computers, electronic and optical products, electromedical devices, measuring devices and watches (+4,3%). In particular, the boom of the automotive sector which grows by 35,9% compared to the previous year. This is the fourth consecutive double-digit increase for the sector (since October 2014).

The greatest decreases were recorded in the sectors of metallurgy and the manufacturing of metal products, excluding machinery and plants (-8,1%), the textile, clothing, leather and accessories industries (-5,7%) and the manufacturing of machinery and equipment nec (-5,0%).
