Productivity, a new round tomorrow

A decisive three-day period ends tomorrow for the agreement on productivity requested by the government from the social partners. The decisive meeting between Confindustria and the trade unions is scheduled for 20. Yesterday, however, the workers' representatives had an exchange of views with Rete Imprese Italia, while today at 18 pm the appointment is between Confindustria and all the other business associations.

The Prime Minister would like to come up with something concrete to present to the European Council on 18 October. But it won't be easy. The leader of the CG, Susanna Camusso, has already pulled the brakes: "Talking about the table on productivity - she said - is a big word".

The number one of the industrialists, Giorgio Squinzi, said he was instead optimistic: “It is a historic moment for the agreement. I hope common sense prevails." Even the secretary of the CISL, Raffaele Bonanni, seems to have confidence: "There are margins".

The sore point is once again that of wages: the government and businesses would like to favor company contracts by reducing the wage coverage so far assigned to national contracts. At the moment it does not seem likely that the unions will be persuaded.
