Prodi: “Hamas' terrible destructive decision and Israel's reactions push us towards an increasingly dangerous future”

In an interview with the French weekly Challenges" the former prime minister and former President of the EU, Romano Prodi, expressed all his concern about the new conflict between Hamas and Israel and renewed his appeal to the EU to equip itself with its own autonomous politics foreign. Prodi: “Hamas' terrible destructive decision and Israel's reactions push us towards an increasingly dangerous future”

The new Middle Eastern crisis "has managed to overshadow the Russian-Ukrainian conflict" is the bitter and worried comment of the former prime minister and former President of the European Commission, Romano Prodi, in an interview with the French weekly Challenges anticipated by the website www.challenges.fr. “The terrible destructive decision of Hamas and the reactions of Israel – adds Prodi – they are pushing us towards an increasingly uncertain and dangerous future”. These are not the same words as the most important banker in the world, the CEO of JP Morgan, Jamie Dimon, who in recent days has defined what we are experiencing as the "most dangerous moment in decades" due to the combination of two conflicts and the great economic uncertainty, but we are almost there.

Prodi agrees with the European Commission's decision to confirm toPalestinian Authority only humanitarian aid ("It is a right and acceptable decision" in order to "avoid further tragedies") but observes: "The indispensable discussion table is missing to establish, for example, which projects in that area should not be financed to avoid other tragedies." And starting from here the former President of the European Commission raises the bar to advocate, once again, the "need for a specific role of the European continent in matters of foreign policy" and to point out that, unfortunately, "the void of content" in Europe goes beyond the Middle East and " we find it in any other negotiation." This is also why Romano Prodi, together with around thirty European personalities, including former Italian prime ministers Julian Amato e Mario Monti, has launched a in recent days Manifesto for the relaunch of Europe in times of a new "cold war" accompanying it with seven concrete proposals in view of the next European elections.
