Prosecutor of Milan, Greco is the new boss

Magistrate Francesco Greco is the new head of the Milan Public Prosecutor's Office - The former prosecutor of Mani Pulite was nominated by a large majority by the CSM plenum

Francesco Greco is the new head of the Milan prosecutor's office. The former prosecutor of Mani Pulite was nominated today by a large majority of the plenum of the CSM, which preferred him to the Milanese prosecutor Alberto Nobili.

Holder of many important investigations (among others those on Montedison, Enimont, Parmalat and on bank takeovers), Greco is originally from Naples, is 64 years old, has been in the judiciary since 1977 and has been working in the prosecutor's office for 37 years, where he is responsible for the pool on economic and financial crimes.

Francesco Greco's appointment as Milan prosecutor passed with a larger majority than expected on the eve: 17 yes. All the professional officers of Area and Unicost, the laity of the center-left and Forza Italia voted for him. The togates of the Independent Judiciary instead expressed their opinion for Nobili with Aldo Morgigni of Autonomy and Independence. Instead, the leaders of the Cassation and the layman of the Ncd Antonio Leone abstained, who would have preferred Melillo's appointment.

Greco "is among the leading experts in the field of economic crimes" and also for this reason "he is the best candidate for the leadership of the Milan prosecutor's office, in a context in which the economy connotes illegal activities", said the rapporteur Paola Balducci , explaining the reasons for his proposal in favor of the appointment of the magistrate. The new attorney succeeds Edmondo Bruti Liberati, who retired last November.

The last major investigations that bear his signature are those on San Raffaele, on Ilva, on the Monti dei Paschi di Siena. As are his tax audits against Apple, Google and Amazon.
