Process to Europe: students promote only the Parliament

An initiative promoted by the European Movement - Italy called "Processo all'Europa" was held in Rome, within the framework of the events dedicated to Europe Day 2016.

It was created on the basis of a series of charges prepared by the students of the Tacitus high school in Rome and Alberti in Minturno on the themes of the response to the migratory phenomenon, the terrorist threat and the lack of attention to the principle of solidarity.

The debate, particularly lively at times, was also characterized by an interesting generational clash, as the accusation was represented solely by the students and the defense by representatives with long experience of European politics behind them.

The popular jury of students has:

– unanimously condemned the European Council without extenuating circumstances in particular for violating the value of solidarity
– fully acquitted by the European Parliament recalling its initiatives in favor of a European immigration policy and underlining the limits of its powers
– condemned the High Representative for foreign policy by a majority with the extenuating circumstance of the inadequacy of the instruments at his disposal for crisis resolution.
– unanimously condemned the European Commission with the mitigating factor of the difficulty of making its decisions concretely binding.

The next "Processo all'Europa", a format that intends to have an itinerant nature, will take place on May 20 in Lecce.
