Gearbox problems, FCA recalls over 1 million cars

Fiat Chrysler is recalling more than one million cars and SUVs worldwide because the gearbox can confuse drivers and they could get out of the car without putting the gearbox into "park" mode.

The recalls affect 300-2012 Chrysler 2014s and Dodge Chargers and the 2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. A check carried out by FCA and the US government found that the automatic transmissions of those cars can confuse and lead people to think they are in "parking" mode even if they are not.

The automaker is conducting an investigation into the issue with the US Traffic Safety Agency (Nhtsa). This malfunction would have caused the injury of 41 people. Approximately 1,12 million vehicles are affected, including 811.586 in the US, 52.144 in Canada, 16.805 in Mexico and the rest outside of North America. FCA said it will make changes to address the issue.
