The reasons for the drop in fuel prices

Why are the prices going down? First of all, the cost of the raw material must be considered. From June 2022 the Oil prices it fell about 25 percent, from over $120 a barrel to about $90. This is an item that accounts for about a third of the cost of the pump price. The rest is represented by costs of refining, distribution, transport and, above all, VAT and excise duties.

What weighs on the downside today, then? The figure is strongly influenced by the cut of excise duties on fuel established by the Draghi government. Until 31 August, the reduction is in fact equal to 30,5 cents per litre. Net of the tax discount, therefore, gasoline reached its lowest level since 7 March 2022.
