How much is insurance Rc car? According to the Insurance Supervisory Institute (Ivass), which presented its new Iper bulletin in Rome on Friday, in the third quarter of last year the average price in Italy was 419 euros. The value is practically stable on an annual basis (-0,3%), but the Institute points out that in the last five years - i.e. since 2013, the first year of the survey - the average price has dropped by as much as 27%.

On the other hand, when it comes to motor liability, focusing on the average value risks being misleading. Riccardo Cesari, director of IVASS, underlines how important it is also to observe the median, "which does not record excessive values" of the prices charged. The median price is in fact 376 euros: means that half of the insured Italians pay less than this amount.

The Authority points out that prices vary greatly on a geographic basis. In Campania, the average price is equal to 539 euros, while in Valle d'Aosta is equal to 303 euros. In any case, the premium differential between Naples and Aosta underwent significant reductions in the three-year period 2013-2016, going from 380 euros to 246 euros and stabilized around the current value during the third quarter of 2018.

20,6% of the contracts provide for premium reduction clauses linked to the presence of the black box. However, the penetration of the black box is very heterogeneous: 60,6% of the contracts stipulated in the province of Caserta include the black box, while the penetration rate in the province of Bolzano is equal to 3%.

At the same time, the average prices are very much differentiate between companies, with variations on an annual basis between –9,4% and +7,4%.

At the presentation of the new Iper bulletin it also emerged that the Ministry of Economic Development has released the co-financing of the new Free estimate from IVASS. The authority estimates to make it operational from January 2020.
