Tax burden: Italy world champion with 55%

Italy world champion. This time not of football, but of tax burden: the “effective” one is al 55%, the highest ever. This was revealed by a report by the Confcommercio Study Center "On the determinants of the underground economy".

Confcommercio estimates that in Italy the apparent tax burden in 2012 was equal to 45,2% of GDP, among the highest in Europe, after Denmark (47,4%), France (46,3%), Sweden (45,8% ) and Belgium (45,8%). However, our country leads the way in the ranking of the increase in the tax burden, which grew by 3,4% in 12 years, from 2000 to 2012. If we exclude Japan and France, in all the other advanced countries the trend was to the decrease.

But if you look at the ratio between the tax burden and GDP net of undeclared, which is even worth 17,5% of the gross domestic product (for a value of 154 billion), then the effective tax burden rises to 55%. "This value is not only the highest in our recent economic history - notes the study center - but constitutes an absolute world record".
