US presidential elections, chaos in Florida: as in 2000, early voting has created irregularities

Outgoing President Barack Obama is increasingly ahead in the polls, but in the meantime the case is breaking out in the peninsula which was already the scene of controversy in 2000: the Democrats have presented a motion at the federal level to force the state authorities to extend the hours of ballots in Florida for early voting.

US presidential elections, chaos in Florida: as in 2000, early voting has created irregularities

While Barack Obama in the polls seems to stretch on the front of the number of big voters, which is what counts for the final victory (according to Real Clear Politics he would have 303 in his pocket, well beyond the necessary threshold of 270), chaos breaks out in Florida, just as it had happened in 2000, when George Washington won Bush.

Early voting has in fact turned into a nightmare for the inhabitants of the peninsula of the East Coast: in some districts it took up to nine hours in line to be able to choose the president of the United States, and the extraordinary affluence, especially in Miami-Dade and Broward counties, would have even prevented many from exercising the right to vote.

The Republicans, who control the state, had recently shortened the early voting period: from 14 to 8 days. The alleged irregularities prompted the Democratic party to present – as reported by the New York Times – a federal motion to force state authorities to extend polling hours in Florida for early voting.
