Vassallo Prize in Pollica, capital of the Mediterranean diet

The ceremony on the port of Acciaroli under the banner of legality, slow food and livability. In memory of Vassallo, assassinated 9 years ago, a manifesto for beauty signed by mayors from all over Italy

The appointment is for Saturday 10 August in Pollica. The "Premio Vassallo", as well as for the slow, this year is characterized by a manifesto for beauty signed by mayors from all over Italy. Angelo Vassallo, the fisherman mayor assassinated in 2010, is remembered in the eighth edition with the delivery of the award to a mayor "who in his government action has worked for environmental protection and administrative transparency, experimenting with innovative practices that can be an example for the other directors”. The winner must also have distinguished himself for his ability to build community, involving citizens. Pollica is the land of the Mediterranean diet and the union with territorial sustainability. A favorable and captivating interweaving, a gym and then a site for recognized internationally renowned chefs. Promoters of the award are the Municipality of Pollica, Anci, Legambiente, Slow Food Italy, Slow City, Federparchi and Libera.

To tell the novelty of this year is directly Antonio Decaro, President of the Association of Municipalities and Mayor of Bari. "In the name of the fisherman mayor, of his love for the community and for the beautiful places he administered, of his battles for legality and decorum, we mayors will meet in his country to deliver the Vassallo award and to affix our signature under a manifesto that commits us to the defense of beauty and legality". Perhaps something more than a dream that Vassallo had been able to build slowly in his years as mayor, enhancing the beauties and the ancient culinary and food tradition.

“The award – says Stefano Pisani, current mayor of Pollica – is a way to continue to feed Angelo Vassallo's dream. Safeguarding the beauty and spirit of a community, stubbornness and perseverance in the search for new ways of development and well-being ". Through the construction of a network and with the commitment of the other mayors those ideas will have to become reality. Pollica and its seaside hamlets of Acciaroli and Pioppi continue to draw tourists from all over the world for the historic healthy diet and principles of longevity.

Slow Food, one of the promoters of the Award, has always supported the Municipality of Pollica. Vassallo started valorisation projects of the identity food of Cilento and now that Angelo is gone, they say, his ideas continue to walk on our legs, on the legs of many, activists, citizens, administrators who believe that starting from those two words, legality and beauty, are essential to return to build real communities that have the common good at heart.

Saturday evening, on the pier of Acciaroli, two moments: at 21 "Pact for beauty, care of communities", a discussion, animated by the president of Anci, Antonio Decaro, by the mayor of Rome, Virginia Raggi, by the mayor of Pollica, Stefano Pisani, by the president of Legambiente, Stefano Ciafani, and by Giuseppe Orefice, of the Executive Committee of Slow Food Italy, around the "Manifesto of Mayors for Beauty" which will be publicly signed.
