Nobel Peace Prize to the National Dialogue Quartet in Tunisia

Il Nobel Peace Prize 2015 was assigned to the National Dialogue Quartet in Tunisia. The quartet brings together the Tunisian General Union (UGTT), the Industrial and Trade Confederation (UTICA), the League of Human Rights (LTDH), and the Bar Association.

The four organizations stood out for their civic engagement during and after the Jasmine Revolution, distinguishing themselves for their efforts in building an authentic democracy in the country after the Arab spring. An award that comes at a delicate moment for Tunisian democracy, amidst internal difficulties and the attacks it has suffered.

The announcement was made by the president of the Norwegian Nobel Academy, Kaci Kullmann Five, the first woman in history to hold this position. The award will be presented in Oslo on December 10th.

The news of the Nobel prize awarded to the Quartet for National Dialogue was also positively received by Prime Minister Matteo Renzi who published this tweet.



Among the names eligible for this year's Nobel Peace Prize there was also that of Angela Merkel.
