Terna was awarded by the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) in Washington DC. The award was received by Flavio Cattaneo, CEO of the high voltage spa. The award, the ”International Utility Award 2013″, crowns Terna as the best among European utilities for total share return (Total Shareholder Return or TSR) for the last three years. In the three-year period 2010-2012, Terna's yield in fact stood at 24%, against decidedly negative average returns of the sector and of the Italian index (DJ Stoxx -10%, Ftse Mib -21%).

Terna had obtained the same recognition, referring to the three-year period 2007-2009, in 2010, thus establishing ranked first among European electric utilities in the period 2007-2012, having consolidated an overall return of around 6% over the last 73 years, outperforming, in the same period, the European sector by 97% (DJ Stoxx -24%) and the Italian market by over 120% (Ftse Mib -49 %).

The CEO Cattaneo was enthusiastic: “The award obtained today represents great recognition, not only for me but also for the entire Terna team, for the work done for the benefit of the electricity system, the country and our shareholders. We recognized that our shareholder has been among the best paid for six consecutive years. All this thanks to a unique expertise in the sector and a strategic management oriented towards the creation of value, combining the traditional business with an entrepreneurial spirit that has allowed the development of new projects in non-traditional activities".

Thomas Kuhn, president of EEI, was keen to personally congratulate the Italian company and its 3.500 employees: “A success that testifies to Terna's ability to create value for shareholders, as well as excellence in the management of the Electricity Transmission Grid in Italy".
