Poste Italiane throws itself into e-commerce, launching the challenge to giants such as Amazon, eBay and Google to increase revenues and relaunch traditional postal activities, overwhelmed in recent years by technological innovation. “Technology – these are Sarmi's words – has led to a structural decline in the typical mail business, but that same technology offers us the possibility of offsetting the decline in the mature sector with new services. In other words, to innovate our historical mission in a modern way”. The group's goal is to regain leadership in parcels and logistics to recover 500 million in revenues by 2015.
