Poste Italiane: no closures in municipalities under 5 inhabitants

“Poste Italiane has taken over a commitment in November 2018 not to close offices in less densely populated areas and in particular in Municipalities with less than 5 thousand inhabitants. This commitment has been maintained and will be reaffirmed in a forthcoming event, which will be held in Rome on 28 October, in the presence of local administrators and central state institutions”. This is what we read in a note from Poste Italiane, in response to some recent statements on the group's role in the area and the company's feared closure of post offices.

The company then adds that "in some large cities with a high population density and a widespread presence of post offices, a project has been launched to remodel the presence in urban areas, with the sole purpose of implementing the service and improving the territorial articulation for citizens , businesses and public administration. The criteria adopted are particularly stringent and exclusively concern cities with a population of more than 100, post offices with a small number of operations carried out per day, the presence of another neighboring office within a few hundred meters and above all adaptation to urban transformation processes which recent decades have involved the territory”.

Finally, Poste reiterates that no office will be closed without a complete and preventive agreement with the competent municipal authorities. Still today, the company led by Matteo Del Fante announced that it has joined the Global Compact (the United Nations global pact that encourages companies to promote the principles of ethical conduct and responsible business) to support a new, more sustainable global economy.
