Poste Italiane: jv with Sennder and GPS on freight transport

Poste Italiane set up a joint venture with the German company Sennder to digitize road freight transport and thus improve its efficiency. The agreement concerns "the handling of parcels and letters between all the sorting and distribution hubs of the main Italian postal services provider". The newborn JV operates under the name of "sennder Italia Srl" and manages all transport on Italian soil for sennder GmbH.

The partnership will allow Poste Italiane to monitor its vehicles via GPS and reduce CO2 emissions, thanks to the use of vehicles with alternative fuels and greater exploitation. In this way, Poste Italiane will achieve an annual saving of more than 6% on annual expenses for full load transport equal to 100 million euros.

“This initiative is part of a broader strategy we have adopted – he comments Matthew Del Fante, CEO and General Manager of Poste Italiane – the Joint Delivery Model plan, and aims to modernize our fleet and continue to optimize our logistics value chain, through advanced IT solutions, transport cost efficiency and the reduction of CO2 emissions. Poste Italiane successfully combines internal innovation with specific start-up partnerships made possible by its new Open Innovation IT platform. We see a clear opportunity to play an even more central role in our customers' digital world by providing innovation."

Secondo David Nothacker, CEO and co-founder of sennder GmbH, “the Jv is a clear example of how the partnership between the Italian logistics operator, with 158 years of experience behind it, and cutting-edge technology can unlock synergies and opportunities never seen before , both for Poste Italiane and for sennder. Sennder introduces cloud-based communications and improved tracking, together with a more efficient organization of logistics mapping, in an industry that still today relies heavily on invoices sent by fax or in paper format. Our GPS tracking system will help Poste Italiane by providing arrival estimates with high precision".
