Poste Italiane: works for the privatization of the company begin

Work officially begins for the disposal of a share of the capital of Poste Italiane spa intended for the market and in part also for the over 144 employees of the group, based on the German model of sharing in corporate management.

Yesterday at Palazzo Chigi there was a long meeting presided over by the undersecretary to the presidency of the council, Filippo Patroni Griffi, which saw the participation of the director general of the Treasury and chairman of the privatization committee, Vincenzo La Via, the deputy minister for economic development, Antonio Catricalà, the economic adviser to the presidency of the council, Fabrizio Pagani, and the managing director of Poste Italiane, Massimo Sarmi.

The discussion concerned the possible valorisation of Poste Italiane considering "the regulatory framework, the agreement with Cassa depositi e prestiti and Poste Italiane loans to the state (which in 2013 exceeded 2 billion, ed.)", as disclosed in a note by Palazzo Chigi late in the evening.

Unlike what was hypothesized in the past, the intention of the executive would be to sell a minority stake in the entire Poste Italiane spa, including postal services. The will of the Treasury, which today controls the entire capital of Poste Italiane, would be to work on the entire aggregate, placing a minority stake between 30 and 40%.

The alternative, probably simpler and faster, would have been to privatize the sectors that continue to register profits, such as the insurance company Poste Vita or Banco Posta, while traditional postal services are struggling and inevitably worsening year after year.
