The top management of Poste Italiane cut the ribbon on the new structure in Rome which will oversee the security of financial transactions

Poste Italiane: the new fraud prevention center has been inaugurated

The new one was inaugurated today in Rome Fraud Prevention Center di Poste Italiane. The new
structure will take care of the safety and the control of financial transactions.

Al cutting of the ribbon of the new structure were present i vertices of Post Office with the President Maria Bianca Farina, the AD Matthew Del Fante and the Deputy General Manager Joseph Lasco; Also present were the President of the National Anti-Corruption Authority, Joseph Busia, the Chief of Staff of the Guardia di Finanza, Army Corps General, Francesco Greek, the Central Director of the Specialties of the State Police, Daniela Stradiotto, the Director of the Postal Police, Ivan Gabrielli, the Director of the Financial Intelligence Unit for Italy, Enzo Evening, and members of the Authorities and officials of the Bank of Italy.

“With the new Fraud Prevention Center, Poste Italiane strengthens its contrast tools to illegal attempts and further raises its anti-fraud response capacity, thus making security a value for the protection of citizens. The Center is an example of the innovative capacity of Poste Italiane also in the field of safety because it adopts a very effective integrated operating model which has increased our prevention capacity in the face ofcontinuous increase in the number of physical and digital transactions that are recorded every year between the various business areas of Poste Italiane" declared the Chief Executive Officer of Poste Italiane, Matthew Del Fante.

24-hour surveillance

Il Fraud Prevention Center of Poste will be active 24 hours a day and will supervise the security of the transactions performed in over 12.800 Post Offices throughout the country and online, through payment cards, on eCommerce operations and on those of the Poste Vita insurance branch. More than 100 specialists employees in the centre, with long experience in the field of financial security and cyber security, together with young graduates selected from the best Italian universities. In support of the specialists who govern the entire control process, from prevention to the management of suspicious transactions, the Center adopts the technologies most advanced inFraud Management and Fraud Intelligence activities to further raise the degree of security of the entire Group's financial assets and enhance the instruments of protection for the benefit of citizens against offenses and fraud.

In 2022, frauds for 50 million euros have been thwarted

In 2022, the center's specialists handled further 1 million reports, foiling fraud attempts for around 50 million euro. In the payment card segment, in particular, the prevention action made it possible to reduce the incidence of fraudulent events against Poste Italiane customers by 50%, equal to 0.0015% of the total, in contrast with the increase in 90% recorded in the same period worldwide. As regards controls on Poste Vita's activities, in the first few months of 2023 the Prevention Center successfully dealt with 6.200 cases, thwarting fraud involving large values.

Poste Italiane has assets of approx 35 millions of customers and every year it handles about 2 billion transactions, for a value of approx 200 billion euros. The company also holds approx 10% of the acquiring market in Italy with almost 5 million physical and virtual POS.
