Post: postmen become pilots for sustainability

At the Vallelunga racetrack, drivers and postmen tested and evaluated the group's new sustainable vehicles.

Postmen and drivers of the Italian post office are transformed into pilots. At least for one day. The workers of the company headed by Matthew Del Fante they were engaged in a day of test drives and training at the Vallelunga racetrack with the aim of evaluating the performance of three and four-wheeled internal combustion, hybrid and electric vehicles. All models selected based on the criteria of environmental sustainability, safety and payload capacity on which a judgment was requested who will be called to lead them.

The assessments concerned, in detail, manageability, comfort and adaptability to the delivery service for the "last mile" and for commercial use.

An operation that is part of Poste's broader plan which plans to reduce its ecological footprint through a sustainability policy in which the automotive sector plays an important role (the fleet, on the other hand, is made up of more than 32 vehicles). The stated goal is in fact to reduce CO40 emissions by 2% by 2022.

“The attention to environmental protection and the ongoing transformation in logistics linked to e-commerce have led the company to review the mix of vehicles that make up the "last mile" fleet. By 2022, the vehicle fleet will be renewed by replacing the current vehicles with new generation ones with low-emission electric, hybrid and endothermic propulsion”, explains the group in a note in which it underlines that as early as April 2020 the fleet will include 2.000 electric vehicles including tricycles, quadricycles and vans that will replace two-wheeled vehicles. 50% of the green fleet will be in service in smaller towns.
