Post and Carabinieri to help the elderly for retirement

Poste and Carabinieri, together, to help lonely elderly people collect their pension during the quarantine period for the Coronavirus. This is the meaning of the agreement reached by the Italian Post Office with the Arma which will allow 23.000 pensioners aged 75 or over to request delivery of their pension at home for the entire duration of the Covid-19 emergency, avoiding thus having to go to the Post Offices.

The initiative, announced on Monday evening by Poste, is aimed at avoiding “the physical movement of people, and in particular of those at greater risk, in any case guaranteeing the maintenance of the interpersonal distance of at least one meter. The initiative also makes it possible to protect the beneficiaries from the commission of crimes against them, such as frauds, robberies and muggings”, states the press release with which Poste Italiane announced the agreement.

The Carabinieri will go to the post office counters to collect the pension allowances and then deliver them to the homes of the beneficiaries who have requested it from Poste Italiane by issuing a specific written proxy. Retirees can contact the toll-free number 800 55 66 70 made available by the Post Office or call the nearest Carabinieri station to request more information.

The service is aimed at those who usually collect their pension in cash at the post office but cannot be provided, Poste still specifies, "to those who have already delegated other subjects to collect them, have a passbook or a postal account or who live with family members or in any case these are residing in the vicinity of their home".
