Poste Italiane sells Banca del Mezzogiorno to Invitalia

Found the agreement between Poste Italiane e Invitalia for the sale of Banca del Mezzogiorno-Medio Credito Centrale. The announcement was made in a note released by the company led by the managing director and general manager Francesco Caio, according to which the entire share package of the bank was sold to the National Agency for investment attraction and enterprise development for 390 million euro.  

“With this transaction – explained Caio – Poste Italiane is continuing to implement its Business Plan focused on three main business areas – mail and logistics, payments and financial services, savings and insurance – on which the Group has decided to concentrate investments and capital allocation to pursue important objectives of innovation and growth”.

"The acquisition of the bank by Invitalia - according to the CEO of the Agency Domenico Arcuri - will allow for the generation of particular synergies capable of multiplying the efficiency of development and cohesion policies both in terms of supporting productive investments by the businesses, above all in the South, as for public investment for development".

The Banca del Mezzogiorno mainly aims to support SMEs in Southern Italy through the disbursement of loans and the management of public guarantee funds. A mission consistent with that of the buyer Invitalia which aims to increase the country's competitiveness. The completion of the transaction is expected within the next 3 months, subject to approval by the Ministry of Economic Development, the Bank of Italy and the European Central Bank.
