Poste Italiane has signed a collaboration agreement with the logistics company sennder GmbH to create a joint venture in Italy, with the aim of optimizing long-haul logistics operations. The Italian group explains in a note that the joint venture, initially under the control of Poste Italiane, will be implemented along the lines of the Deliver 2022 Strategic Plan.

Every day, for long-haul transport, the Poste Italiane group employs around 800 vehicles belonging to third parties, for around 2.300 routes with an average distance of around 450 km.

The new Jv, which will operate in Italy in the "full load transport" segment, is part of "Poste Italiane's broader strategy aimed at improving performance and increasing innovation within the Post, Communication & Logistics division - reads the note – through a specific focus on long-haul transport”.

Sennder GmbH - continues the note from Poste Italiane - is a digital carrier "based in Berlin and one of the most innovative and promising start-ups in the sector, which has developed a proprietary technology for organizing long-haul transport with an efficient, intelligent and flexible”.

The partnership will therefore allow Poste Italiane to "also focus on the demand for transport from third parties, both from Italy and abroad, benefiting from economies of scale and technological optimisation".

Matteo Del Fante, CEO and general manager of Poste Italiane, underlines that "the initiative is part of the broader commitment undertaken with the new Joint Delivery Model, aimed at modernizing the fleet and optimizing logistics operations with solutions increasingly advanced IT, achieving cost efficiencies and reductions in CO2 emissions”.

Poste Italiane and sennder GmbH have signed a letter of intent and are engaged in the establishment phase of the joint venture, which should become operational in the third quarter of 2019.
