Ports: agreement with MIT for the use of LNG

On Tuesday, a collaboration protocol was signed at the Ministry of Infrastructures and Transport for the use of liquid natural gas in Italian ports. The Assoporti, Assogasliquidi, Assocostieri, Confitarma and Assarmatori associations signed the agreement.

The agreement transposes directive 2014/94/EU which provides requirements and guidelines for the construction of infrastructure dedicated to alternative fuels. To achieve the Community and international objective of reducing polluting emissions in the transport sector, liquid natural gas is one of the fuels to focus on.

"This agreement which I am pleased to have promoted - said Minister Delrio - represents an important cooperation to make ports a driving force for economic development and sustainable innovation".

Francesco Franks, President of Assogasliquidi, instead said that “the agreement represents a significant and concrete step towards a real development of LNG, so that the enormous potential of this clean energy source can be grasped as soon as possible. LNG is a ready-made and tested energy source which, thanks to its ecological properties, can greatly help our country to reduce air pollution in all sectors where it can be exploited, from maritime transport to heavy road transport. , to industrial uses not reached by methane, to off-grid users. Thanks to the joint action of all the actors present in the field, the Protocol signed today will allow an ever wider use of this energy source”.
