Popolare di Vicenza: new trial requested for Zonin and others

The work of the investigators continues on the crash of Banca Popolare di Vicenza. The Public Prosecutor of Vicenza has presented new requests for indictment relating this time to the second section of the investigation, the one concerning the alleged obstacle put in place against the supervisory bodies, Consob, the Bank of Italy and the European Central Bank.

In detail, for obstacle to Consob, the Public Prosecutor's Office has asked for the trial of the former general manager Samuele Sorato, for his deputy Emanuele Giustini, and for the Vicenza institute itself. In this context, we recall that in recent weeks the preventive seizure of 106 million euros was carried out, money which, at the end of the process, could be used to compensate some savers involved in the crash.

For obstacle to supervision of Bank of Italy and the ECB the indictment was requested for the former president Gianni Zonin and for all the other suspects already in the first section (Giuseppe Zigliotto, Paolo Marin, Massimiliano Pellegrini, Andrea Piazzetta).

The ECB and Bank of Italy were allegedly hindered in the exercise of their functions during the checks carried out in 2014. According to the Public Prosecutor's Office, the suspects hid the so-called two-sided operations from the inspectors on Via Nazionale, at the same time masking the real state of the bank. As far as Consob is concerned, however, the process request concerns the 2014 capital increase.

In the first line, the main one, the accusations are of insider trading, obstacle to supervision and false prospectus. The names are always the same.

On April 21, the investigating judge Roberto Venditti will be called to decide on theunification in a single procedure of the two sections of the investigation. On 5 March, instead, the Vicenza prosecutors Gianni Pipeschi and Luigi Salvadori filed the request for declaration of insolvency of the BpVi, already in compulsory liquidation.
