Genoa bridge: reconstruction at Fincantieri-Salini Impregilo

Will Salini Impregilo and Fincantieri, together with Italferr, to rebuild the bridge over the Polcevera in Genoa on the basis of the architect Renzo Piano's project.

The official announcement will come in the afternoon, but the mayor and commissioner Marco Bucci has made his choice. A choice supported by the Government which from the outset had supported the hypothesis of entrusting the plan to Fincantieri.

The company led by Giuseppe Bono, together with Salini, got the better of the Friuli-based Cimolai which was in the running with a project by the architect Santiago Calatrava. The arrival of appeals from the excluded companies is possible, but probably without a request for suspension. On the other hand, up until the end, Bucci tried unsuccessfully to put the various proposals together, but in the end the negotiations were not successful.

Returning to the project, the offer from the Salini-Fincantieri consortium will cost 220-230 million euro and provides for the construction of a viaduct inspired by the design donated to Genoa by architect Renzo Piano – who will not, however, be directly involved in the project – but with fewer pylons than those shown in the images presented last September. Fincantieri and Salini will create a joint venture which will be called "Per Genova". The design will be handled by Italferr. According to the contract, everything should last 12 months starting from the delivery of the released areas.

“The demolition phase began yesterday, and the reconstruction phase will begin shortly, in March. And I think that by the end of 2019 the bridge will already be standing, and at the beginning of 2020, at the latest, it could be inaugurated, perhaps even at the end of December". This was stated by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Danilo Toninelli, in an interview with Radio Anch'io on Radio 1 Rai.

As regards the demolition, on 15 December the contract was awarded to the consortium formed by Fagioli, Fratelli Omini, Vernazza Autogru, Ipe Progetti and Ireos.

On Monday, December 17, the authorization for the dismantling, "permanently of the seizure", of the western stump of the Morandi bridge arrived from the magistrate and the prosecutor Francesco Cozzi, while for the moment we will have to wait for the east stump.
