La The European Commission has officially paid Italy the fourth installment of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (Pnrr), with an amount of 16,5 billion euros. The announcement was made directly by the community executive, underlining that the payment is the result of the achievement of all 28 objectives and goals linked to this specific phase of the Plan.
Attention is now turned to the request for provision of the fifth tranche of 10,5 billion euros. The Minister of European Affairs, Raffaele Fitto, declared that all 52 objectives had been met. Initially 69 were planned, but this number was subsequently revised downwards after a reworking of the original plan led by Mario Draghi. Now all that remains is to wait for the Brussels exam.
The fourth installment of the Pnrr
The press release from Palazzo Chigi specified that the payment was made following the achievement of the goals envisaged by the European Union, in particular those linked to reforms in justice and public administration, as well as in terms of social inclusion and public procurement.
The main investment sectors covered in this payment concern digitalisation, with particular attention to the transition of local public administration data towards the cloud, the development of the space industry, the adoption of green hydrogen technologies, improvements in transport, promoting research, strengthening education and implementing social policies.
Pnrr: how much money has already been paid?
The fourth tranche, disbursed by 2023, brings the total resources obtained by Italy through the Pnrr to about 102 billion, corresponding to more than half of the total resources of the Plan: 191 billion to be received in tranches, of which 69 billion are non-repayable and the rest in loans to be repaid in approximately twenty years. In total there will be 10 installments.
“The commitment of President Meloni and the Government was to receive the funds by the end of 2023 and we respected it. This is the result of a great collective commitment and constant and constructive collaboration with the European Commission. The work on the Pnrr continues”, said the satisfied minister Raffaele Fitto.
