Homemade pizza: the AVPN world champion is from Salerno, the runner-up is Polish

Stefano Di Filippo, from Siano (Salerno), but residing in the province of Udine, is the 2023 world champion of homemade pizza. The AVPN jury decreed it, Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana at the end of a challenge between passionate pizza makers from 55 countries around the world (as many as 1450 pizzas proposed, with 641 admitted, the others excluded because they do not meet the requirements of the regulation).

Il second podium of the contest went to the Polish Wojciech Mokrzycki from Gliwice. We then return to Italy for the third classified with Ciro Aiello.

For Stefano Di Filippo this is a confirmation, he had already ranked first in the 2022 edition of the AVPN Prize. The formula is different this year, with a jury of experts led by journalists Luciana Squadrilli and Luciano Pignataro, the first critics of the food and wine sector in general and of the world of pizza in particular, and by AVPN President Antonio Pace. which took the place of the FB people of the past editions and which decreed the three super finalists. The trio was fought, each of the competitors who presented a Margherita and their own workhorse.

Italy took the lion's share closely followed by Germany, Poland, New Zealand and the United Kingdom

“Winning the Vera Pizza Contest for the second time is an enormous satisfaction for me – commented Stefano Di Filippo – as well as a great incentive to continue improving myself in the art of pizza, which is my greatest passion. A victory that is even more special this year, because it was the perfect occasion to celebrate the birth of my daughter Noemi and dedicating the pizza in her name allowed me to face the race in the best possible way and give my all. An unforgettable edition also for the great emotion of experiencing it in person, which was an additional incentive for me to participate in this great championship for the second time.”

It was a wonderful contest – said Antonio Pace – the confirmation of a format which, also in this edition, has met with extraordinary success, involving enthusiasts from all corners of the world. And that also sparked the support from every continent, with around 80 likes. Obviously Italy took the lion's share, closely followed by Germany and Poland but with crazy numbers also by New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Romania, Sweden, Brazil, Slovenia and Canada. A further sign, if needed, of the appeal that pizza has in the world and which makes it the mainstream food product par excellence”.
