Pisapia retires: "Impossible comparison with Pd"

Pisapia retires: he will not stand for election with the Democratic Party - Renzi displaced runs for cover: with him a list of former progressive Campos formed by Tabacci and the mayor of Cagliari Zedda - Not even the leader of the Ap, Alfano, is re-nominated: Lorenzin and Casino in its place

Pisapia retires: "Impossible comparison with Pd"

The former mayor of Milan, Giuliano Pisapia, will not run alongside the Democratic Party in the next general elections. The training of him Progressive field, born from the idea of uniting Pd and Mdp, is essentially over and he withdraws from the political scene. "We tried to confront the Democratic Party but it turned out to be impossible," explained Pisapia who traced the choice back to the lack of parliamentary scheduling of the Ius soli law. A somewhat specious explanation because, beyond the will of the Democratic Party, Parliament lacks the numbers to be able to approve the Ius alone.

Pisapia's move displaces the secretary of the Democratic Party, Matteo Renzi, who had bet on Pisapia to cover himself on the left flank in the face of the aggressive electoral campaign overshadowed by "Free and Equal" by Pietro Grasso, Pierluigi Bersani and Massimo D'Alema.

In truth, it is probable that a group of progressive Campo exponents - from the centrist Bruno Tabacci to the mayor of Cagliari Zedda - present a left-wing list linked to the Democratic Party but Pisapia's absence weighs heavily politically, even if his electoral following has always been very modest.

Another defection from the centre-left is that of the secretary of the PA, Angelino Alfano, who declared yesterday that he does not want to stand as a candidate in the next elections: in this case, however, the choice will facilitate the Democratic Party which will be able to ally itself with a center list - led by minister Lorenzin and by the president Casini – with a renewed image.
