Pirelli, Terna and Hera in the Gold Class of sustainable companies

With 90 points, the company that manages the national electricity grid is at the top among the Electric Utilities, while it stood out in the "Multiutility and Water" category with a score of 87/100. Gold medal in the “Auto Components” sector for Pirelli, with a score of 84/100.

Pirelli, Terna and Hera in the Gold Class of sustainable companies

Terna, Hera and Pirelli have been included in the Gold Class of global sustainability by S&P Global, a recognition reserved for companies included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), the international stock exchange index for evaluating the ESG factors of the approximately 3.500 listed companies with the largest global capitalization. 

The result was announced on Monday 8 February with the publication of the 2021 Sustainability Yearbook, the report with the results of the analyzes carried out for access to last year's index and the names of the companies that achieved the highest sustainability scores. 

For 12 years in the DJSI, Terna is among the electric utilities included in the "Sustainability Yearbook 2021" and has managed to be included among the Gold Class companies for the seventh time with a overall score of 90/100, versus an average for the electric utility sector of 43/100.

“This record, which comes after the recent recognition of the world's first place for the third consecutive year in the Electric Utilities sector of the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index, recognizes the Terna's role as director and enabler of the energy transition for an increasingly sustainable, secure and resilient grid", comments Terna in a note, underlining the centrality that sustainability also covers in the 2021-2025 business plan, in which it was established that 95% of investments to be carried out in the next five years will be sustainable.

Ivy instead it positioned itself as "Industry leader", in the "Multiutility and Water" category, with a score of 87/100, compared to an industry average of 45/100. “Hera has stood out in particular for its environmental, economic and governance sustainability”, obtaining significant results in the management and protection of resources, in its ability to seize market opportunities and in relations with stakeholders. In addition to the Gold Class, the Bologna-based multiutility received a special mention of "Industry mover", as the company that registered the most significant improvement, with a growth of 19 points compared to the evaluation of 68/100 in 2019.

Gold medal also for Pirelli, the only one in the "Auto Components" sector worldwide to have obtained the "Gold Class Distinction" recognition, with an overall score of 84 points versus an industry average of 35 points. Marco Tronchetti Provera, executive vice president and chief executive officer of Pirelli, commented: “Pirelli's confirmation in the Gold Class of the 2021 Sustainability Yearbook testifies to the centrality of sustainability in our corporate strategy and Pirelli's ability to integrate a responsible approach into all business activities to create value for Stakeholders”.
