Pirelli wins the BMW Innovation Award

Pirelli was awarded the BMW Supplier Innovation Award 2014, the prize that the German company assigns every year to companies that among its suppliers have distinguished themselves for their ability to innovate. The Italian tire manufacturer was awarded during a ceremony in Amsterdam for the "best innovation in quality" thanks to the Real Dynamic Curing technology, applied in the rubber vulcanisation process.

This technology, used by Pirelli in its plants, makes it possible to establish exactly the optimal degree of vulcanisation of each tire through a thermal sensor. Vulcanization, i.e. the fixing of the characteristics of the rubber by means of heat, represents the last phase of the production process of a tire and is a determining factor for the quality of the final product. The award was assigned to Maurizio Boiocchi, General Pirelli Technology Manager.

The Italian company is one of the key suppliers of the German company worldwide also in terms of number of pieces. In fact, thanks to the research centers and production plants located in the production and sales areas of premium and high-end cars, such as China, Brazil, the USA and Europe, the Milanese company is able to develop solutions in a short time best suited for BMW vehicles worldwide. In particular, Pirelli, in collaboration with researchers from the Munich company, produces cut-to-measure run flat tires for each specific BMW model and marked with a star on the side of the tire itself, which certifies its "dedicated" development.

This development methodology increases safety and maximizes vehicle driveability. The Pirelli homologations for the BMW Group are over 200, with sizes from 16 to 21 inches. In the long list of models equipped with tires from the long P, SUVs such as the X1, X3, X5, X6 stand out, as well as the 1 Series, 2 Series, 2 Series Active Tourer, 3 Series, 3 GT Series, 4 Series, 5 Series, 6 Series GranCoupé, 7 Series, and the Mini Paceman and Countryman.
