Pirelli and Russian Technologies have communicated, through a note, that they have started up the second production line of the Voronezh factory, in southwestern Russia. The new line it will be called Voronezh 2 and, starting from March, it will allow the two companies to produce compounds for Premium tyres, especially in the Winter segment.

To align the plant to its standards, with the installation of cutting-edge machinery, Pirelli invested around 56 million in 2012, turning Voronezh into one of the most modern industrial plants in the whole country. A further investment of around 44 million euros (for a total, therefore around 100 million), is expected by 2015, when the factory will produce around 4 million tires a year at full capacity.

The parties expressed their mutual satisfaction. For the general manager of Russian Technologies "this project is very important for our company, due to the experience and technology of our foreign partners" and will be useful for "creating new jobs".

The president of Pirelli Marco Tronchetti Provera, for his part, stated that Russia "is a strategic market for the group" and that the Voronezh Tire Plant "is a splendid example of the collaboration between the Russian authorities, the industry, and the experience and technology of an international company". Pirelli's goal, according to Tronchetti, is not simply to produce "Premium tires for Russian consumers", but to make the Voronezh plant "a large and efficient logistics centre".
