Pirelli strengthens in Mexico and invests another 200 million dollars over the next three years in a new factory, which adds to the current car tire plant in Silao. The announcement, 4 years after the inauguration of the Pirelli factory within the industrial hub Port Interior of Silao, in the state of Guanajuato, was given on the occasion of the visit of the prime minister, Matteo Renzi, to Mexico. The new investment of 200 million dollars will start in 2016 and will add to the approximately 360 million dollars invested to date and the 50 million dollars already planned between 2016 and 2017. At the end of 2018, the total investment by Pirelli between the two plants in Silao will therefore be more than 600 million dollars.

Production at the new plant should start in 2017. The Silao plant, built in 2012, has been focused on the Premium segment since its inception, with production concentrated on high performance and ultra high-performance tires for cars and SUVs. intended for the local market and all markets in the NAFTA area. At the end of 2015, the Pirelli production center in Silao had an annual production of 3 million pieces, which will rise to 5 million pieces at the end of the first tranches of investments. With the new investment, the overall production capacity will reach around 2018 million pieces per year by the end of 7,5. The workforce, currently equal to 1.400 employees, is expected to grow to over 1.800 direct workers, in addition to the already existing induced activities of 400 units.
