In the evolution of the Cyber Tire sector, Pirelli is the first company in the world in the sector to share information relating to the road surface detected by intelligent tires on the 5G network, presenting a preview of the use case "World-first 5G enhanced Adas (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems ) services”. The demonstration took place in Turin during the event "The 5G Path of Vehicle-to-Everything Communication". Thanks to the cooperation between Pirelli, Ericsson, Audi, Tim, Italdesign and Kth, on the test track located on the roof of the Lingotto it was shown how a vehicle equipped with Pirelli Cyber Tire sensorized tires and connected to the 5G network is capable of transmitting the risk of aquaplan detected by the tires to another oncoming vehicle, through the use of ultra-broadband and the low latency of 5G.
The tire is the only contact element between the vehicle and the road and, thanks to the technology that Pirelli is perfecting, it communicates with the vehicle, with the driver and, tomorrow, thanks to the potential of 5G, with the entire road infrastructure. The use of the Pirelli Cyber Tyre, equipped inside with a sensor, will in the near future provide the car with data relating to the tire model, mileage, dynamic load and, for the first time, potentially dangerous situations on the road surface. from the presence of water to poor adherence. On the basis of this information, the car will be able to adjust its control and driving assistance systems, significantly improving the levels of safety, comfort and performance, and will also be able to provide the same indications to other vehicles and to the infrastructure.
This year Pirelli also presented Track Adrenaline in Italy, a product for track days enthusiasts, which includes a line of P Zero Trofeo R sensorised tyres. Track Adrenaline is a real virtual track engineer, which monitors pressure and tire temperature in real time and combines this information with telemetric data in order to provide the driver with indications and suggestions on how to improve performance on the track.
