Rain, wind and even snow: Italy overwhelmed by the cold

From summer to late autumn, without warning. Italy, especially in the north, was overwhelmed by a wave of bad weather, with temperatures dropping from 30 degrees almost everywhere a few days ago to 10-15 degrees below. Above all, the maximum values have collapsed, which in the North will struggle to reach 20 degrees over the weekend. A little better in the South, where the weather has changed but remains milder: in Calabria, Puglia and Sicily the mercury column will still have semi-summer values. In addition to abundant rains and cold, the wave of bad weather is also bringing strong winds, in this case especially in the South: strong storm surges are underway in the Tyrrhenian Sea, especially in Sardinia where the mistral blows at over 100 kn/h.

In the North, in the Alps, the first snow has also arrived, well ahead of the norm (we are still in September). Snowfalls, even heavy ones, were recorded in many places in Trentino-Alto-Adige, even at relatively low altitudes (1.500 metres). Over the weekend the thermometer will continue to be below average and there will still be strong winds, then on Monday the bad weather will insist almost only on the North-East and Sardinia, while from Tuesday it improves everywhere: the sun will return and there will again be temperatures suitable for the period, with winds decreasing.
