Pininfarina, the first electric and autonomous car is like a living room

Not only will you not need to get behind the wheel, but you will enter it as if you were in your living room. The new 100% electric and 100% self-driving car conceived by Pininfarina is called Teorema and for the first time, due to Covid which would have slowed down the normal design process, it was designed by design team from Cambiano and Shanghai entirely virtual, without scale prototypes, thanks to VR technologies. Teorema presents itself as a real conceptual revolution of mobility, in the name of experience and comfort. In fact, as entering a living room, entry into the futuristic car occurs simply by walking inside it since the back opens e the roof moves up and forward, leaving room for a responsive floor that lights up guiding passengers to their seats. The central space is modular and appears similar to a domestic environment, allowing for different actions, moments and experiences to take place, while the rear, more private, offers passengers the opportunity to isolate themselves, rest or sleep.

However, there is not only the responsive floor, but all surfaces and glass are intelligent, thanks to the partnership with Continental Engineering Services: the pop-up buttons are hidden under the car's interior surfaces and only emerge when a person passes their hand over them, while the use of Smart Glass in the rear of the car allows passengers to enjoy their privacy and to regulate the light that filters in from outside. CES is just one of the important technology partners in the new project. The others are Wayray for True Augmented Reality, Poltrona Frau for the seats, which can also be transformed into benches or beds, and BENTELER for the rolling chassis, which allows the car to obtain wider spaces inside and at the same time to maintain a relatively contained overall height.

“Pininfarina – comments Kevin Rice, Chief Creative Officer of Pininfarina – has always looked to the future, using concept cars as an innovation tool to chart the direction of the automotive industry and introduce new visions in terms of usability and technology. Teorema, in particular, wants to give back to people the pleasures of the car, driving and traveling, without the frustrations related to the increase in traffic and other inconveniences, but integrating artificial intelligence, 5G and the latest technologies to lead passengers to incredible new travel experiences.”
