GDP, Istat estimates down slightly: +0,4% in the third quarter

Istat revises the quarterly and annual estimates of the Italian gross domestic product down by 0,1 percentage points, but underlines: “The picture is positive” – Domestic demand is increasing, exports are also on the rise.

In the third quarter of the 2017 Italian GDP increased by 0,4% compared to the previous quarter and by 1,7% compared to the third quarter of 2016. The data released today by Istat is slightly lower than the preliminary estimate released on 14 November which had revealed a three-month increase of 0,5% and a trend increase of 1,8%. From the Institute they underline how in any case the "picture remains positive"

The variation acquired for 2017, the one that would be recorded in the event of zero economic growth in the last three months of the year, is equal to +1,4%.

At this juncture it should be remembered that the Government's forecast contained in the update note to the Def forecasts a 1,5% increase for the current year.

Good news aboutto internal demand which recorded a substantial increase in all parameters, with a growth of 0,3% in national final consumption and 3% in gross fixed investments. Imports and exports grew by 1,2% and 1,6% respectively.

National demand net of inventories contributed 0,7 percentage points to GDP growth (+0,5 gross fixed investments, +0,2 consumption by households and Private Social Institutions ISP and a zero contribution from Public Administration PA). The change in inventories provided a negative contribution (-0,5%), while that of net foreign demand was positive (+0,2%)

Uphill too the added value of industry (+1,3%) and services (+0,1%), while the added value of agriculture decreased by 3,6%.
