Piedmont, Tar cancels elections: "Go back to the vote"

The Tar of Piedmont sinks Roberto Cota and his Giunta, annulling the regional elections of 2010. The Administrative Court upheld the appeal of the former president of the Region, Mercedes Bresso, against Michele Giovine's "Pensioners for Cota" list.

The verdict was issued today: "The proclamation of the elected officials has been cancelled, for the purpose of renewing the electoral competition", reads the sentence, which is immediately enforceable. Cota's lawyers have already announced their intention to appeal to the Council of State, but at this point the prospect of new elections is more than concrete.

"I celebrate - Bresso replied to a question on the hypothesis of his re-nomination - after which I belong to a party and I was part of a coalition, we will decide what to do". As for the list of retirees for Cota, “it all had non-existent candidates – he added -. Not only were the signatures fake: there were people who didn't know they were candidates”.

But what will happen now? Bresso explained that, “since the Tar ruling is enforceable, it can be appealed with extreme urgency, possibly requesting a suspension: this means very short times, in the order of a few weeks, which will allow for the vote to be held, if it is confirmed. But the Council of State had already ruled on the validity of the criminal sentence for the annulment of this list, so it shouldn't object".

In addition to Cota, Matteo Salvini was furious: “Judges and the left, even when they lose, manage to win – the secretary of the League wrote on Facebook -. An attack on democracy, that's what it's all about. More than underpants!".
