Piazza Affari ranks black in terms of performance among the main world stock exchanges considering a period of time that goes from 2005 to today. This is the figure recorded in the "Indices and data" report carried out by the Mediobanca research area.

Based on the data updated on 11 October last, the average annual return on the Milanese stock market was equal to -6,5% since December 2005 (-51,7% overall return). Worse than Piazza Affari is only Athens (-15,6%). However, the Greek Stock Exchange is not included in the sample of the top 23 global financial centers covered by the study.

As for the ranking, here are the results obtained from the international lists:

– Lisbon -4% average annual return and -35,6% overall,
– Madrid -2,5% and -24,2%
– Moscow -0,3% and -3,1%.
– Tokyo -0,01% and -0,1%.

Instead, they obtained an average annual return and total return with the plus sign:

– Jakarta: +13% and +274%,
– Shanghai: +12% and +238,4%,
– Nasdaq: +9% and +153,8%,
– Zurich: +4% and +52,6%,
– Frankfurt: +3,6% and +46,6%,
– Nyse of New York: +3,5% and +45,1%,
– London: +0,2% and +2,5%.
