Terna plan: 13 billion in investments and less CO2

The new power lines that will come into operation will be "invisible" because they are underground and/or underwater - The 2019 development plan plans to push the energy transition towards clean sources in line with the decarbonisation objectives

Terna plan: 13 billion in investments and less CO2

13 billion investments in the national electricity grid in 10 years. The predicts it 2019 Development Plan presented by Terna during the workshop "Grid and Renewables: evolution and future scenarios" held today, April 2, in Rome and organized in collaboration with Renewables Grid Initiatives, the European network of grid operators and NGOs.

“The profound change taking place in the energy system, in fact, requires a transformation of the electricity grids with interventions and investments in sustainability, innovation, digitization and technology, to allow the full integration of renewables, which are increasingly widespread, while ensuring adequate security and flexibility of the system”, explains Terna in a note.

During the workshop with local institutions and bodies, environmental and consumer associations and research institutes, the company led by Luigi announced 13 billion in investments, spread over the decade, with the aim of enabling the energy transition towards clean sources in line with the decarbonisation objectives.

From an environmental point of view, Terna's development plan envisages the implementation of interventions that make it possible to reduce CO2 emissions into the atmosphere for a quantity of about 6,3 million tons per year, corresponding to those produced by about 7 million medium-sized cars. Finally, around 60 percent of the new power lines that will come on stream during the Plan will be "invisible" because they are underground and/or underwater.

“The grid is at the heart of the change taking place and Terna intends to develop a leading role in the energy transition. Decarbonization drives change in the energy industry through the progressive increase of renewables, efficiency, the digitization of networks and accumulation which represent the most important tools for managing this new paradigm” he declared Louis Michi, responsible for Terna's strategies, development and dispatching.
