Forty kilometers from Hanoi, in the industrial district of Vin Phuc, it rises the new Piaggio plant, the second in Vietnam. “We have not taken work away from Italy – said Roberto Colaninno, president of the Pontedera group, during the inauguration yesterday -. The work was born and developed here in Vietnam, we have brought our culture to this country”.
Piaggio will produce in this plant new engines for two-wheelers developed in India “with a considerable saving capacity both in terms of consumption and emissions while respecting the environment”, explained the president and director of the Indian plant, Ravi Chopra. It is in India that the first Vespa for the local market will be produced at the end of April, with the aim of "reaching 300 units by the first half of 2013".
Giulio Terzi was also present at the inauguration: "Vietnam and the Asian continent must assume a new centrality in our foreign policy," commented the Italian foreign minister.
Just over an hour after the start of trading, the Piaggio group share gained 0,6% in Piazza Affari.
