It's called Gita and was conceived by Fast Forward, the Piaggio division based in Boston, near MIT: the new technological jewel is a trunk on wheels capable of following a person carrying almost 20 kg of weight at a speed that can reach 35 km per hour. The one created by the house that invented the legendary Vespa is the first self-driving suitcase, an absolute novelty that will be able to solve many problems in urban travel, helping to transport weights that are not irrelevant for short journeys on foot or, for example, while traveling by bicycle .

"Gita can also be sent on a mission regardless of our presence, if we are busy doing something else", specifies Jeffrey Schnapp, the managing director of the division created in 2015 in the USA with the specific aim of making high-tech objects larger than drones but smaller than cars. In fact, Gita moves following the orders of the "master", but thanks to an indoor navigation system it is also able to transport objects from one place to another in total autonomy: the principle is that of self-balancing scooters, two large diameter wheels on the sides and a battery on the bottom to help stabilize the vehicle, which in terms of height will tend to reach the knees of an adult.

To date Gita is only a prototype and in a few months the experiments in the business field will start: in any case, an evolution in a consumer key cannot be excluded. The official presentation is scheduled for February 2 e the first experimentation will take place in hotels and retirement homes, but it is not difficult to imagine a wider use, as an aid to carry shopping bags, or to go catch a train, help with a move and in general as a "last mile" vehicle. With the evolution of car sharing, car pooling and electric cars, vehicles designed to cover the last mile are rapidly spreading: trunk scooters, kick scooters and pedal assisted bikes will be the green means of transport in the metropolis of the future for beat the traffic and forget the problem of parking, and Gita fits perfectly into this scenario.
