Oil below 40 dollars but production remains unchanged

OPEC (in which Indonesia joins) has kept the production ceiling stable at 30 million barrels per day – Prices are falling, oil companies lose in Piazza Affari.

The price of oil continues to fall after OPEC, during the summit underway in Vienna, decided to leave the production ceiling unchanged at 30 million barrels. The move is in line with what experts expected.

For a moment some rumors had assumed that the production ceiling could even be raised to 31,5 million barrels per day, a choice which, in reality, would have photographed the current situation, given that last month Opec itself, in which from today Indonesia also joins, produced about 32 million barrels of oil per day.

The effects on the market were immediate: New York light crude dropped 66 cents to 40,44 dollars a barrel, London Brent lost 47 cents to 43,37 dollars a barrel. In Piazza Affari, oil prices accelerate downwards: a few minutes after the end of the session Eni loses 1,21% a 14,64 euros, Saipem 1,54% a 7,77 euros per share, Tenaris the1,56% to 11,34 euros. Saipem also suffers from the fact that the Russian Energy Minister, Alexander Novak, said yesterday that "at the moment the negotiations with Ankara on the Turkish Stream have been stopped".
