Oil, drilling rigs in North America are down

Trend reversal compared to the May trend. In the last week the number of drilling rigs in North America decreased by two units, due to the reduction of active wells in Canada (-14), not offset by the increase of those in the USA (+12). The performance of shares in the Oil & Gas sector was affected, above all Tenaris, Eni and Saipem

Oil, drilling rigs in North America are down

The US company Baker Hughes, active in the field of oil services, provided an update on Friday evening number of active oil wells.

The data shows a weekly decline in the number of drilling rigs in North America (from 1129 to 1127 rigs). In fact, if in the United States they increased by 12 units in relation to the oil sector, the number of active wells in Canada is decreasing (-14), while those in the Gulf of Mexico are stable.

On a monthly basis however, the trend is reversed; Canada recorded a decrease in activities in May (-23), while in the United States they increased (+40), as well as in Europe and South America, albeit to a lesser extent.

The data provided by Baker Hughes also explains the slight rise in the price of oil on Monday morning. WTI (West Texas Intermediate) rose 5%, while Brent rose 0,5%. However, the Oil&Gas sector is still weak on the markets (Tenaris +0,22%, Eni and Saipem gain 0,6%).
