The heat gives no respite, but at least there petrol will not weigh excessively on the pockets of Italians. Fuel prices are at their lowest levels for six months, allowing motorists traveling for the holidays to breathe a sigh of relief in view of the August movements.
With crude oil at its lowest level since February and a new drop in the prices of refined products - attributed by market operators to low demand and increased inventories - the Fuel prices at the pump continue to fall, following the declines recorded last Friday. According to the survey by Staffetta Quotidiana, which processes the data communicated by the managers to thePrice observatory of the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy, on Saturday Eni reduced the recommended prices of petrol and diesel by one cent per litre.
Fuel prices: a relief for motorists
According to the data collected at 8am yesterday morning out of approximately 18 thousand systems, the average price of petrol in self-service mode is 1,841 euros per litre, with slight differences between the companies offering prices at 1,845 euros per liter and the white pumps at 1,833 euros per litre. Also the self-service diesel stands at an average price of 1,721 euros per litre, with the companies at 1,726 euros per liter and the white pumps at 1,711 euros per litre.
For those who prefer the served, petrol has an average price of 1,985 euros per litre, varying between 2,026 euros per liter at the companies and 1,904 euros per liter at the white pumps. The diesel served it is at 1,865 euros per litre, with companies selling it at 1,907 euros per liter and white pumps at 1,781 euros per litre.
As regards the LPG, the average price served is 0,714 euros per litre, with the companies at 0,723 euros per liter and the white pumps at 0,703 euros per litre. The methane served has an average price of 1,330 euros per kg, with the companies at 1,343 euros per kg and the white pumps at 1,319 euros per kg. Finally, the LNG stands at an average price of 1,232 euros per kg, unchanged for both companies and white pumps.
Fuel prices on the highway
On highway network, fuel prices vary slightly compared to ordinary roads. For petrol in self-service mode, the cost is expected to be 1,934 euros per litre, while opting for self-service the price rises to 2,199 euros per litre. Diesel follows a similar trend, with a price of 1,830 euros per liter for self-service and 2,103 euros per liter for served.
For those who use LPG, the price is 0,857 euros per litre. Methane stands at 1,455 euros per kg, while LNG costs 1,294 euros per kg.
Petrol is down but traveling by car remains expensive
Although fuel prices are falling compared to the summer of 2023, those who decide to travel by car for summer holidays will still have to face high costs between refueling and tolls. Assoutenti conducted a survey comparing the costs of traveling by car with those by train on some typical holiday routes.
According to the latest official data from Mase, petrol costs on average 1,851 euros per litre, 4,7% less than in August 2023, with a saving of around 4,5 euros full. Diesel, on the other hand, costs 1,730 euros per litre, with a decrease of 5,6% compared to the same period last year, allowing a saving of over 5 euros on a full tank.
Despite these savings, traveling by car on some routes remains expensive. For example, to cover the 1.588 km between Turin and Palermo, an average of 392 euros are spent on petrol, to which 175,6 euros are added in motorway tolls, for a total of 567,6 euros. The trip from Turin to Reggio Calabria costs a total of 491 euros, from Milan to Catania 462 euros, and from Bolzano to Lecce 411 euros. A cheaper trip is from Rome to Cosenza, with a total cost of 128 euros for petrol and 35,8 euros for tolls.
