Peter Lindbergh: fashion photography and contemporary culture

Peter Lindbergh at the Kunstpalast in Düsseldorf with the exhibition: Untold Stories, from 5 February to 1 June 2020

Peter Lindbergh: fashion photography and contemporary culture

La show Untold Stories is the first exhibition of works curated by Peter Lindbergh himself. The photographer, born in 1944 and raised in Duisburg, worked on the presentation for two years. Lindbergh's collection of 140 works from the early 80s to the present provides an in-depth look at his vast oeuvre and invites you to discover many previously untold stories.

Much of the footage has never been shown in exhibitions; others have been commissioned and published by magazines such as Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Interview, Rolling Stone, W Magazine or the Wall Street Journal. Not fashionable, but the person portrayed is prominent in Lindbergh's photos. With his works he has managed to transcend and redefine the immediate context of photography of fashion and contemporary culture.

The exhibition is made up of three parts, which move along a chronology. Two large-format installations frame the tour and open surprising perspectives on Lindbergh's work. Untold Stories is a special legacy of Peter Lindbergh, who passed away in September 2019, and at the same time his personal statement on fashion photography.

The exhibition is organized by the Kunstpalast in Düsseldorf, in collaboration with the Peter Lindbergh Studio in Paris.
